Recorded in Austin, Texas and mixed in NYC by Andy Wallace’s right-hand man John O’Mahony (Depeche Mode, Coldplay, Kasabian,), Alberta Cross are poised to release their debut album on Ark Recordings and return to the UK later this month. ‘Broken Side Of Time’ took root in an April 2008 jam session when, with the aid of a little drink and a little smoke, the five-piece started jamming on a group of guitarist and vocalist Petter Ericson Stakee’s new songs with immediate and breathtaking results. “I remember thinking that night, this is going to be insane,” recalls Stakee. While the band’s well-received 2007 EP ‘The Thief & The Heartbreaker’ was a modest, folk-minded, acoustic based disc that garnered glowing reviews, for principal song-writers Stakee and bassist Terry Wolfers, it was a baby step. ‘Broken Side Of Time’, however, is giant stride ahead. Grand in volume and vast in vision, it’s an inspired set of electric songs that finds the intersection of The Verve, My Morning Jacket and Neil Young (with or without Crazy Horse). “We’re trying to give people truly soulful music, which is hopefully inspirational, admits Stakee. “I want to ease their minds and give them a little break from reality.” Fresh from appearances at Coachella, Bonaroo and SXSW the band are confirmed to support Neil Young at the Hard Rock Calling event in Hyde Park on June 27th as well as a highly-anticipated set at this years Glastonbury festival on the 28th on the Park Stage.
