Dev Hynes, the voice, ears, fingers, flesh and blood behind Lightspeed Champion, is back with a brand new single, Marlene, on 2nd February 2010.

Majestic and epic, Marlene is full of headlong melodies and expansive arrangements, where the grandness is frequently allowed to loom rather than thunder, yielding to passages of repose, before the infectious rhythm kicks in again.

Dev Hynes plays every instrument on all three b-sides himself - a concerto; a cover of Serge Gainsbourg’s 69 Année Erotique (completely in French!) and his version of (He’s) The Great Imposter, written in 1961 by eighteen-year old Sharon Sheeley, the fiancé and songwriter of Eddie Cochran.

Marlene is a little glimpse of what’s to come from Lightspeed Champion’s forthcoming album, the much anticipated follow-up to 2008’s Falling Off The Lavender Bridge, details of which are to be announced soon.
